Response to Misha'al Al-Kadhi: Contradictions in the Bible
A response to Chapter 2
Contradictions in the Bible
This is one of the very few section where we can be in full agreement
with Mr. Al-Kadhi's text. The reason is probably because he did not
write anything himself. He quoted two verses from the Qur'an and one
verse from the Torah.
He quoted these verses correctly, so everything is true.
These statements are indeed in the Qur'an and in the Torah.
The only recommendation would be to chose a more modern translation.
The King James Version is really archaic language.
It says in Deuteronomy 4:2:
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you,
neither shall ye diminish ought from it,
that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God
which I command you.
The translation in the New International Version reads
in a much more pleasing style:
Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it,
but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
This is obviously a very important command.
One more comment. The Qur'an quote by Mr. Al-Kadhi was
And when there came to them a messenger from Allah,
Confirming what was with them, a party of the people
of the book threw away the book of Allah behind their
backs as if (it had been something) they did not know.
The noble Qur'an Al-Bakarah(2):101
It is known throughout history that some Jews, or some of
those who come from a Christian family and even some of the
people who have grown up Muslims have rejected the scriptures
of their people, and have discarded them with contempt.
This is nothing to be surprised about. That happens in all
cultures and religions, that some people reject the faith and
the scriptures of their ancestors. Some for good reason and
some for sheer rebelliousness. But that doesn't mean that
this rejection by some people corrupts these scriptures.
there is also the other party of them who were true
believers and who handed on the holy books to the next
generation.
Again, I have to point Mr. Al-Kadhi to his own book which nowhere
claims that the Christian or Jewish scriptures are corrupted in
their text, but in the contrary affirms those books present with
Jews and Christians as authoritative revelation. For more details
see these pages:
The Integrity of the Bible according the Qur'an and the Hadith,
What the Qur'an says about the Bible
and
A Qur'anic
Truth Unveiled.
I agree with the importance to stay true to the revelation
of God as given to us. Let us start the discussion of the
topic of corruption on this positive note. It is getting
worse pretty soon as Mr. Al-Kadhi is ready to attack in the
upcoming sections.
