Gk:synagein: to bring together, an assembly. Jewish places of worship. After the Exile of the Israelites, and the Temple destroyed, Jews established synagogues as local places of prayer, worship and study. The earliest dated evidence of a synagogue is the 3rd century B.C. Jesus started his ministry in the local synagogue.
