Response to Misha'al Al-Kadhi: Because he performed miracles?
A response to 1.2.3.4
Because he performed miracles?
In this chapter, almost everything Al-Kadhi states is true, like
Jesus did nothing on His own, but only did what He saw His Father
doing, and that He Himself had no power, except that which the
Father gave Him. The conclusion Al-Kadhi draws to the effect that
this does not make Jesus God's Son is faulty and is based on poor
understanding of what the Messiah was exactly.
In Isaiah 9:6, we are told the Messiah will be the Prince of Peace,
Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Almighty God. We are told
in the Psalms "A body You have prepared for Me." Here is the beauty
of God in Christ, that while the body was a shell, like all of our
bodies, the Spirit in that body was wholly God. Never having sinned,
as even the Qur'an testifies, born not of sinful lust, but by the
Holy Spirit overshadowing a pure virgin, also in the Qur'an,
God introduced himself manifestly to His own creation.
How does He differ from the rest of men, who also possess bodies,
spirits, and souls? In the fact that His Spirit was totally
undefiled by sin. He was always in communication with the light,
as He did only that which His Father God told Him. He said,
"If your eyes are good, your whole body will be filled with light."
That is the light of God, which was filling, empowering and guiding
Jesus. This is what He came to show us, and what He released for
us by giving up His body - the very light which created men.
How is He the Son of Man? Because He kept the Law of Moses, and
because He was as fully human as we all are. When God banished
Adam and Eve out of His presence, the seed of His own return into
their lost lives was in the womb of Eve. To the serpent, God said,
"Your seed will always be at enmity with the woman's; He will crush
your head and you will strike his heel."
Miracles are evidence that Jesus was from God, yes, as Nicodemus
said: "We know that You are a man sent from God, because no one
could do the miracles that You are doing unless God was with Him."
To this Jesus replied, "Unless a man is born again, He cannot see
the kingdom of God."
Jesus pointed out that it wasn't the miracles that were so important
as doing what He commanded, even to love each other.
His mighty miracles do attest that Jesus came from God.
Nobody can do these without the power of God. Because he was
by them proven as true messenger of God, we have to listen to
what he says. His identity is established not by the miracles
but by his claims, backed by his miracles as evidence that he
has the authority for his claims.
