Dogs are rarely mentioned in the Qur'an, see al-Ma'idah 5:4; al-A`raf 7:176; al-Kahf 18:18,22.

There are, however, many Islamic traditions about dogs and which are the reason for a very negative attitude towards dogs in all Muslim societies, see the article Muhammad and dogs.
