All quotations from the Koran on this site are from A.J. Arberry's translation The Koran Intepreted unless otherwise indicated. The Koran Interpreted is the single most respected English version in the world, and it is the one that made me fall in love with the Koran in the first place. My brothers and sisters in Islam might cricitize me for using a translation, but I haven't yet learned to read Arabic, and so until I do, I'm stuck comparing translations--in my house I have Arberry's, Pickthall's and Shakir's, and there are many more available online. Remember that Arberry recongized the untranslatability of the Koran, and that's why his version is called The Koran Interpreted. I know that he was a non-Muslim, but he's universally recognized as having done a better job with his translation than any Muslim has, and he understood and respected our religion so much that I wonder if he really was a Muslim without realizing it.
Also, all quotations on this site from the ahadith and sunnah of the blessed Muhammad are taken from this infintely useful online resource which all Muslims should have marked on their "favorites" page: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/
All quotations from the Bible on this site are from the Revised Standard Version (RSV), taken from http://bibleontheweb.com/. I know that Christians tend to prefer the King James Version (KJV), but it is based on manuscripts that are now outdated, as older ones have been found in the centuries since the KJV was written. The KJV is also said to have a number of mistranslations, and the RSV in turn does not contain many of the quite deliberate mistranslations that would occur later in embarassing passages in the New International Version (NIV)--a translation which also committed the sin of cutting and pasting between manuscripts at the translators' convenience rather than sticking with the oldest existing manuscripts in each case. No, the RSV is simply the only way to go, in my experience. But then again, I cannot read Greek or Hebrew.
I have borrowed a lot of arguments on this site from understanding-islam.com and from answering-christianity.com, so kudos to them.
